cafe Lignum
This is a café project located in the Okazaki area of Higashiyama, Kyoto. The site occupies the ground floor of a building over 40 years old, which was originally divided into two distinct spaces, each with its own unique character, separated by a partition wall.
Rather than forcing uniformity, the design embraces the materials that had been used in the space, carefully balancing multiple textures to allow them to coexist harmoniously.
By allowing different materials to remain naturally present within a single space, subtle variations emerge across seating areas, creating a layered experience for visitors—one that offers richness through quiet differences.
